Top 13 Digital ‘Events’ of the noughties

We’re now well into 2010, and the gloves are off with the new decade (do we call this the ‘tens’ if last decade was the noughties?) but while we get excited about what’s to come it is also a good time to look back at what has been.

So, let’s have a look at my top 13 digital ‘events’ of the last 10 years…

“Well I’ve got 104 friends…”

Alan Partridge: “I’ve probably got more friends than you’ve got cows.”

Reminds me of some of the conversations I’ve heard when people are talking about how many facebook ‘friends’ or LinkedIn connections they have…or worse, when some agencies brag about how many Twitter followers or facebook fans they have managed to acquire for their clients.

It’s so easy to knock anything to do with rail travel in the UK, whether it be prices, delays, conditions of the trains but there have been two rays of light whilst recently planning a trip to London.

One of them is a good tip for reducing train fares…the other was just a bit funny…

Even as recently as 2008 I worked with a client who wasn’t sure whether the ‘internet’ was really important or in any way shape or form here to stay. It dawned on me the other day that I haven’t had one of those skeptical conversations with anyone for over a year – I think, finally, the ‘internet’ is here to stay…well done everybody.
